A person who blackmailed queer person, trying to squeeze money with the threat that he will spread information about their sexual orientation, was sentenced to a conditional discharge for two years and fined 2,000 GEL.
A member of the queer community applied to Equality Movement on July 13, 2019, worried that they was threatened with disseminating the information about their sexual orientation.
According to the victim, he got acquainted the abuser through the internet. The accused attempted to extort 1000 GEL from him. As the victim explained to the lawyers of Equality Movement, accused extorted part of the money – GEL 500.
After involvement in the case, Equality Movement appealed to the police, an investigation was launched under Article 181 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The abuser was arrested and sentenced to a conditional discharge, fined 2,000 GEL and the victim refunded with 500 GEL.
