An Investigation Began over the Death Threats to Trans Activist

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has launched an investigation over violent and homo/transphobic threat to LGBT activists in the social network.

On December 12, 2019, Equality Movement held a awarding ceremony of the Equality Awards 2019. The award was given to LGBTQ human rights activists and supporters, including a transgender woman.

After the awards, a video was released in which one of the participants was a transgender woman. The video was shared by thousands of people and numerous groups on the social network, where aggressive men cursed and threatened a transgender woman.

To the extent that the threatening facts contained a real threat, and the transgender woman’s job was known to the perpetrators of the threat, thus Equality Movement appealed to the Ministry of the Interior Affairs. The police launched an investigation.
