Police detained a person Accused for Beating Transgender Activist


According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), on January 28, a person accused for beating transgender activist, Miranda Paghava was detained. Based on the judge’s ruling, B.O. born in 1986 was detained for committing the violence on discriminatory grounds.

According to the MIA, investigation concluded that on January 28, 2018, at Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi, B.O. physically assaulted Miranda Paghava, based on the victim’s gender identity.

The investigation continues under Article 126 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies violence.
