I hope that our society will unite for love and equality

“I am Shorena Gabunia, a civil activist.

There are people around us, who believe that it’s very important to legally register their partnerships. For a person like me, who has had a family and children for many years, this issue has never been relevant and I am not currently in civil marriage.

Unfortunately, our legislators recently decided that only a certain group of people should benefit from a right to marry and other groups should not. I am talking about same-sex couples, who, as of today, don’t have the right to officially register their partnerships in Georgia.

It’s difficult and this case is, of course, very bad, and I think that it’s time to introduce the institution of civil partnership.

This institution has existed in western European countries for many years, it has worked successfully, with different variations and it would be wonderful for those people who don’t have the right to register their unions today in Georgia to be able to benefit from this institution.

I support civil partnership and I hope that our society will unite for love and equality and not for hate and oppression.”,-Shorena Gabunia
