Two People Fined for Abusing Transgender Women


Georgia, Tbilisi -With the help of Equality Movement, transgender women, who were accused of petty hooliganism by police, were freed and those who tried to provoke them with transphobic remarks were fined.

On November 5, 2019, transgender women applied to Equality Movement. Two Transgender women have been charged under Article 166 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia (petty hooliganism), which carries a fine of up to GEL 500 and/or imprisonment up to 14 days.

On October 18, 2019, at approximately 02:00 am, two female citizens and am man came to the cruising ground and verbally abused transgender women with transphobic remarks.

In particular, they mocked, cursed, and questioned who of them had male names. In response to this abuse, transgender women were called the police. Upon their arrival, drafted a record of administrative offenses against abusers and as well the affected transgender women.

Equality Movement has been involved in the case since its inception, after lengthy deliberations by a judge of Tbilisi City Court Administrative Cases Board on December 4, 2019, terminating proceedings against Transgender women. Two cisgender women were known as violators and fined with the maximum amount of 500-500 GEL.
